For my next Tasting Experience, I head back to downtown Vero and to one of 14th Ave’s newest and most highly anticipated restaurant openings of 2018, Post & Vine!  Co-owners, Bobby Del Campo and Sean Tuohy opened their doors back in April after an extensive renovation and build out of the old post office building, which includes a large outdoor patio.  If you recognize the “Del Campo” name, Bobby’s dad, Joseph Del Campo, was a contestant on the 32nd season of the reality TV show called Survivor.  Let’s take a closer look at everything this new restaurant has to offer.

One of the biggest problems in downtown Vero is the lack of parking spots available.  Only a few businesses have their own dedicated parking lots, while others must rely upon only street parking, which during peak times can be challenging for their customers to find a spot.  Post & Vine grabs your attention as you drive by with the large outdoor seating area.  Upon entry, the first thing you notice is the large Buddha artwork above the hostess stand and the large bar.  There are a few tables inside if you prefer to dine there, but the majority of their seating is outside on the patio.  They have a mix of low and high-top tables, and a gathering area at the far end of the patio with a fire pit for larger parties.  I’ve not been here when the weather is inclement, but I imagine that might hurt their business a little bit depending on how bad the weather gets.  To keep you cool in the warmer months, they have a Big Ass Fan located in the center of the outdoor patio.  While I am being literal, that is the name of the manufacturing company that makes that large of a fan.  While they are mainly used for industrial applications, it fits perfectly for their needs here.

Now on to the food! Let’s jump right in and see what I had to eat!

Asian Chicken Wings – ($10.00) – My regular readers know wings are one of my favorite foods, so I couldn’t wait to give these a try.  The wings are fried then tossed in sweet garlic teriyaki sauce that has a touch of heat and garnished with chopped chives.  The wings had a little crunch on the outside yet were still tender and juicy inside.  The wings were lightly dressed with the sauce and had good flavor.  The heat was subtle enough for the average person, so don’t let that keep you from trying them.  They were excellent!

Cheese Goddess Portabella – ($11.00) – Those look so good!  The base is an oversized portabella mushroom cap stuffed with a blend of cream cheese, shredded provolone, Swiss, parmesan, sour cream, and garnished with scallions and a balsamic reduction sauce.  The mushroom caps were perfectly roasted and tender, the cheese blend had a rich and creamy texture, and the balsamic reduction sauce added a sweet and tangy flavor.  Very rich, but it was delicious!

Bavarian Soft Pretzel ($8.00) –  Made in-house and baked to order is this GIGANTIC soft pretzel.  Over a foot tall and wide, this thing is more than enough to share with a few people.  It pulled apart easily and had that wonderful soft chewiness that we all love.  The honey mustard dipping sauce is house made and some of the best I’ve ever tasted.

Cuban Sandwich – ($11.00) – From the menu description of what ingredients are used to make this, it appears to be a West Coast or what is known as a “Tampa” classic Cuban Sandwich.  Cuban bread is layered with ham, salami, pulled pork, Swiss cheese, house-made dill pickles, mustard, mayonnaise, then pressed until the cheese melts and the bread is golden brown.  The addition of the salami and mayo is what makes it a West coast version.  The sandwich was really good, but I did not notice that it had salami on it till I’m writing the review, so it appears that the flavor profile is not that much different than a Miami version.  While not traditional, I’d like to see them substitute the classic yellow mustard on this sandwich for the honey mustard they serve with the pretzel.  I think that would be AMAZING!

Chargrilled Salmon – ($19.00) – Salmon is a very common fish that you find on a lot of menus, but this version is anything but common.  The salmon filet is char-grilled, then topped with a citrus beurre blanc sauce, and capers.  Jasmine rice and roasted brussels sprouts were served alongside.  The sear and grill marks on this filet were exceptional.  Not only was it stunning to look at but had this wonderful and slightly smoky flavor.  The beurre blanc sauce really took it over the top and added a bright citrus flavor.  Inside the salmon filet was still moist and very tender.  I think this was my favorite dish of the night.

Chocolate Cake – ($6.00) – Desserts change often, so there will always be something new and interesting to try.  We ended the evening with a slice of their chocolate cake.  Fresh whipped cream and cherries were served alongside.  The chocolate cake was any chocolate lovers dream, it was very moist and had a rich fudgy chocolate flavor.  A wonderful way to round out our evening!

I heard about these two new food critics in town by a friend in our foodie group and I just had to meet these guys!  Jackson (Left) and Memphis (right) started a new Facebook page called Kid’s Choice Food Picks.  I thought it would be fun to reach out to them and invite them along for my review of Post & Vine.  It was great meeting them and collaborating during this review.  If you have kids, then I highly recommend you give their page a like and see what and where these guys are eating for kid-friendly approved meals!

In Conclusion:

For a restaurant to survive in today’s crowded market, they need something unique to keep diners coming back for more.  Post & Vine seems to have found that with their large outdoor patio that is unlike any other place in Vero.  I was invited to the soft opening earlier this year and got an early preview of the food and we thought it was quite good for just opening.  On this most recent visit, I think the food quality and preparation has only gotten better.  If you’re waiting to check this place out until the “new” wears off, then I suggest you don’t wait must longer because this place is going to be almost untouchable when season is in full swing.  Stop by and check these guys out, I know you won’t be disappointed!
