Every Tuesday morning at 10:30, McKee Botanical Garden offers a guided walk through its historic garden. The tour is called Wonders of McKee, and it is an easy way to learn the story behind one of Vero Beach's best-loved places.
Along the way you'll hear how plant explorers brought back exotic specimens in 1926, and how landscape architect William Lyman Phillips worked them into his design. You'll also learn how the garden's well-known buildings came to be.
The best part may be the history of the garden itself. McKee was Vero's first visitor attraction. It was saved from development, carefully restored and reopened as the community treasure we enjoy today. If you've walked these paths many times, the stories will help you see them in a new way. If you're new to town or have family visiting, it's a good way to start.
The tours started October 6 and run every Tuesday at 10:30 AM. The garden lists the tour as free. Please note that the tour is not meant for groups or school tours.
McKee Botanical Garden is at 350 US Highway 1 in Vero Beach. The garden is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM and closed Mondays. For questions, call 772-794-0601 or visit mckeegarden.org.
