Looking for something creative to do with the kids over Thanksgiving break? The Vero Beach Museum of Art is holding drop-in workshops where families can make their own kokeshi-inspired wooden dolls.
Traditional kokeshi are handcrafted Japanese figures known for their simple shapes and expressive painted designs. Everyone starts with a pre-made wooden form, then decorates it with paint or markers and adds fabric and felt to make a one-of-a-kind character. All materials are provided.
The workshop is part of a bigger day at the Museum. You can tour the exhibition Hokusai, Hiroshige, and Hasui: Landscapes in Print, fill out a family guide together, and then stop by the workshop whenever it suits you. Kokeshi go nicely with those Japanese landscape prints, and you head home with something you made yourselves.
The workshop is open to all ages. Children should come with an adult.
When: Monday through Wednesday, November 23 to 25, 2026, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
Where: Laura and Bill Buck Atrium, Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach.
Cost: Included with Museum admission. It is a drop-in program, so no sign-up is needed. If you have questions, call the Museum at (772) 231-0707.
