Here's a good way to spend a Saturday morning outside: the City of Sebastian is hosting an Invasive Species Weed Wrangle at Sebastian Stormwater Park, and volunteers are welcome to come help.
The plan is to pull invasive plants out of the park, including Air Potato vine, Australian Umbrella Tree and Rosary Pea. Left alone, these plants can crowd out native vegetation, reduce biodiversity and degrade habitat quality. Going after several invasive plants in one morning helps restore balance to the ecosystem and gives native plants room to recover. It also helps the park's habitat stay healthy over the long term.
This is a nice fit for neighbors who love the outdoors, care about native Florida plants, or just want to give back to a park they enjoy. A couple of hours of work leaves a mark you can actually see.
The Weed Wrangle runs Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sebastian Stormwater Park, 297 Englar Drive, Sebastian, FL 32958. Registration goes through the "Register Here" link on the City of Sebastian calendar page for the event. Sign up there before you come, and check the page for any updates.
