Free Tuesday at the St. Lucie County Aquarium

Here is an easy, free outing for the family: on Tuesday, December 1, admission to the St. Lucie County Aquarium in Fort Pierce is free. The first Tuesday of every month is free admission day, so it's a good time to go if you've been meaning to visit.

The aquarium is home to the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit. The city describes it as an educational hub for local residents, school groups and visitors. It's more than a row of fish tanks. Its living displays model six Florida ecosystems found in the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, right in our own backyard.

Kids and grown-ups alike can look through interactive microscopes, watch the aquaria up close and reach into the hands-on touch tank. As the city puts it, you can experience life underwater with no snorkel required.

Free admission runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The aquarium is at 420 Seaway Drive, Fort Pierce, FL 34949, a short drive down the coast from Vero Beach. If you have questions before you go, the listing gives 772-462-3474 as the contact number.

Pack the curious kids, invite a neighbor and enjoy a free morning or afternoon learning about the waters we all love.
