An Evening with Gilbert King – Bone Valley

This event took place on October 7, 2025. See upcoming events in Vero Beach.

Event Description: The Vero Beach Book Center is proud to welcome Pulitzer Prize–winning author Gilbert King, best known for Devil in the Grove, for an engaging literary evening. The event will feature an author talk, live audience Q&A, book signing, and photo opportunities. Gilbert will share the inspiration behind his new book, Bone Valley: A True Story of Injustice and Redemption in the Heart of Florida, which examines one of the most shocking miscarriages of justice in Florida’s history. The book tells the story of Leo Schofield, who has spent 35 years in prison for the 1987 murder of his wife, Michelle, a crime he has always denied. Despite evidence linking another man, Jeremy Scott, to the murder scene and his later confession to multiple killings, the State of Florida has refused to acknowledge Leo’s innocence. Based on King’s internationally acclaimed podcast Bone Valley, named by The Guardian as one of the best podcasts of the year, this new book brings to light a case that challenges the very core of justice. This free event is open to the public, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.
