Mark Wygonik of the Theater Guild will review Earthly Powers by Anthony Burgess. First published in 1980, the book has been called an epic masterpiece and helps us re-live the 20th Century through two characters. One is a journalist who finds himself in some of the literary maelstroms of the 20th century. The other is his brother-in-law, a man intent on climbing through the hierarchy of the Catholic church to become the architect of church revolution and a candidate for sainthood. Burgess plumbs the depths of the essence of power and the lengths men will go to achieve it. Burgess is most famous as the author of A Clockwork Orange.
