22 Students at GYAC have enrolled in this year’s journalism program – up 340%, compared to the five students last year.  Classes are held in a face to face after school setting in a media lab from 4:00 – 5-00.

The Young Journalist mentors third, fourth and fifth GYAC students on how to become journalists. The Young Journalist provides students with the freedom to investigate and write an article [Non-fiction] about whatever they want to write about, while learning about the history and the basic elements of journalism, as a serious academic discipline.  They learn by having fun.

The Young Journalist is privileged to add two new outstanding mentors.

Gabrielle Allemeier:

Gabby’s travels around the world began with her love of reading. As a child, fantasy worlds such as Narnia and Middle Earth captured her imagination. The book that set off an obsession to see Scandinavia was Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset, which relates the life of the fictional title character as she ages from childhood to adulthood in medieval Norway. Not only has Gabby traveled to Norway, but she has visited over thirty countries on five continents. She hopes that she can inspire youths in Indian River County to also discover adventures in reading, and to make those adventures a reality.
