Resolve to find joy in your day, month and year.  Bah humbug, you say?  Sure, much of our time is spent muddling through daily routines but within these routines there is the potential for joy.  Resolve to enjoy something really small each and every day.

“We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives…not looking for flaws, but for potential.” ―Ellen Goodman

Monday, January 5th looms.  Many of us dread its arrival after holidays spent reveling without routine.  Yet, despite this abrupt end to our solstice slumber, there is joy to be found on this bleak January day.  Mondays (or any days) do not have to be full of flaws.  Simply savoring the taste of coffee, listening to great music or enjoying the inevitable sunrise can be joyful interludes.

Resolve to smile.  Resolve to make someone else smile.  Tell a joke to elicit laughter.  Smiles and laughter are so very joyful.  Thank someone and really mean it.  Resolve to text a friend or family member a simple “good morning”.  Unexpected texts of love and appreciation always bring joy.

“Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music lifts us sunward
in the triumph song of life.” ― Henry van Dyke, 1907

2015 is a BRAND NEW YEAR.  Instead of adding big projects like losing weight or getting organized to your traditional New Year’s resolutions, be kinder to yourself in this New Year and focus on capturing more joy in the everday.  Begin today by gifting this simple resolution to yourself.

Dali Lama New Year quote

Happy New Year and as Lee Ann Womack sings so well:  “when you get the chance, I hope you dance”!
