Vero Vine Top Fourth of July Events in Indian River County

Independence Day in Indian River County is going all out this year, with Vero Beach marking America's 250th birthday alongside the usual lineup of parades, fireworks, and waterfront parties. Here's where to spend it.

1. USA All Day: Vero Beach's 250th Celebration
The City of Vero Beach is throwing an all-out birthday bash for the nation's 250th. The parade rolls down 14th Avenue from 10 AM to noon, with the Indian River AACA showing off classic cars at the old railroad station. Festivities shift to Riverside Park at 4 PM with food trucks and kids' activities, a "Respect to Colors" veterans ceremony at 4:30, the band Riptide taking the stage at 6, pie-eating, hot dog-eating, and Hula-Hoop contests throughout the evening, and fireworks at 9 PM.

2. Sebastian Freedom Festival Parade & Fireworks

Sebastian does it right with an 8:30 AM parade down Indian River Drive to Riverview Park, a skydiving landing from the AirSports Parachute Team, live music from Ladies of Soul, Heart of Oak, and the Bobby Owen Band, plus hula hoop, pizza, and watermelon eating contests. Fireworks close out the night.

3. Swim to the Wreck

Kick off the holiday with a splash. This early-morning swim heads out to the SS Breconshire (the "Boiler Wreck") with a champagne toast at the flag once you arrive. Swimmers, floaters, kayakers, and paddleboarders are all welcome, what started with under 20 participants has grown into a crowd of more than 1,000.

4. Rowdy Rooster Freedom Fest

Head downtown for an afternoon-into-evening celebration at Rowdy Rooster, starting mid-afternoon and running into the evening.
