The Vero Beach Museum of Art will open a temporary satellite location at 1716 Highway A1A in March 2027, maintaining its educational programs while a new campus takes shape in Riverside Park.
The museum plans to vacate most of its current facility in mid-February 2027, keeping only the Collections Wing, as construction begins on the new Riverside Park campus scheduled to open in 2028. The new campus will include indoor and outdoor community gathering spaces, galleries, gardens, terraces, and courtyards.
To bridge the transition, the museum has leased a 6,000-square-foot building on Highway A1A. The space, called the VBMA "Hub," will offer Spring Term art classes and workshops, Museum Studios family programming, a mini Art Zone for children, and community access programs including Classes for Veterans, A+ART, and Summer Art Camp. Staff offices will also be housed there.
Funding for the two-year lease comes largely from museum leadership. An anonymous VBMA Board Trustee has committed a gift covering 50 percent of the lease cost, with two additional anonymous trustees helping to outfit the space.
"Our generous and visionary board leaders are committed to advancing VBMA's mission," said VBMA Executive Director Brady Roberts. "They've demonstrated that with 100 percent board participation in the Museum in the Garden capital campaign and through funding assistance for an interim satellite space, which will allow us to provide diverse and innovative classes, workshops, and programs in art education while the new facility is constructed."
Programming will extend beyond the Hub location as well. The museum's Museum Explorations on the Go program, which has grown by 30 percent year over year, will continue serving PreK through Grade 12 students and teachers in Indian River County classrooms. Community access programs offered in partnership with Senior Resource Association, Center for Memory and Movement, and others will also continue offsite.
The 2028 International Lecture Series will be held at St. Edward's School to accommodate the hundreds of subscribers who attend. Signature events including Art in Bloom and GALA 2028 will similarly take place at offsite venues.
"We look forward to welcoming the community to the incredible and robust final season we have planned for our current facility and will hope to see them often at the Hub and other locations while our new Museum building and transformed campus are under construction," Roberts added.
