The Rest of the World Just Noticed Our Little Beach Town

If you have lived here long enough, none of this will surprise you. Searches for Vero Beach jumped by more than 200 percent over the prior year, and a global travel search platform's annual trends report has named our town the No. 1 trending destination for U.S. travelers in 2027. Not top ten. Number one.

The ranking puts Vero Beach ahead of Bimini in the Bahamas, Olbia in Italy, Da Nang in Vietnam, and Stockholm in Sweden. Florida had a strong showing overall, with Destin and Daytona Beach also landing in the top 10, but Vero came out on top of the entire list.

What Is Drawing Everyone to Our Shore?

The report points to the same things those of us who live here already prize. We have 26 miles of beaches with actual breathing room, and a coastline that has not been buried under towers of condos. Local tourism officials have long leaned into building restrictions that keep the coastal views open and the scale human, a philosophy they describe as "sunrises, not high-rises."

There is also a lot to do once you pull yourself off the sand. Visitors can kayak the Indian River Lagoon, browse downtown shops and art galleries, or spend an afternoon at McKee Botanical Garden. The Vero Beach Museum of Art and Riverside Theatre round out a trip that goes well beyond a beach chair and a bottle of sunscreen.

Should We Expect a Crowd in 2027?

Worth keeping in mind: this ranking tracks what people are searching for, not necessarily where they end up booking. The platform is clear that its report reflects travel search activity, not a guarantee of how many visitors will actually arrive. Still, a jump of more than 200 percent in searches is a real signal, and it suggests that travelers are starting to look past Florida's most familiar beach towns for something with a little more room to breathe.

We will take it as a compliment, even if part of us hopes the word only spreads so far. What is the one thing you would tell a first-time visitor they absolutely cannot miss while they are here? Tell us in the comments on our Facebook post.
