For my next Tasting Experience, I head down to Miracle Mile and to a place called Sweet Kiss Ice Cream! Having spent most of my life in the Midwest, we would only look forward to three of the five seasons. What’s the fifth season you ask? in addition to the normal changing of the seasons, there was one more that only northerners will understand, and that is the “Ice Cream” season. If you have lived in the south your entire life, you may be asking what that is. As winter sets in, most of the ice cream shops close due to decreased demand. We would always count the days until “season” kicked in, usually the first part of March when we could get that first ice cream cone of the season. Living in Florida we don’t experience the “ice cream” season, so thankfully we get to enjoy it year-round.
If you have yet to discover the deliciousness that is Sweet Kiss Ice Cream, then you are in for a real treat! Owner, Livia Sorger opened the place in April of 2015 and it’s located at 2101 Indian River Blvd in Miracle Mile. While the business name says ice cream, what they are making here is Gelato. It’s an Italian style “ice cream” and is usually smoother and creamier than traditional ice cream. It contains 50% less air, less fat, is made with whole milk instead of cream, and in my opinion tastes much better. Everything here is made in-house with organic milk and quite a few products shipped in from Italy for a truly authentic experience.
Sweet Kiss was recently invited to participate in an ice cream contest by Klavon’s Ice Cream Shop located in Pittsburgh, PA. This was their 2nd Annual contest and Sweet Kiss came in 1st Place! This is a huge honor and they have been dubbed the “Best Ice Cream Parlor in America 2018” and won the $10,000 Grand Prize! The flavor is called “WOW” because of the reaction their customers had when they taste it.
In Conclusion:
I hate to admit it, but my first experience with their gelato was not a good one. I don’t recall what I ordered, but I was not blown away by it. I always give places more than one chance before writing them off, and I’m so glad I did. My second time was AMAZING, and the gelato was so rich and creamy. The flavors are bold, and they make you want to eat more. I was also surprised to learn that a few of my foodie friends that have lived in Vero for a while have never heard of it, so I was happy I got to introduce them to it. If you are familiar with this place, or you are just discovering it, go and see how amazing their gelato is, because I know you won’t be disappointed!
