Some of the best fundraisers in Vero Beach don't look like fundraisers at all. Since 1982, the Replogle family, who have owned and operated Ocean Grill since 1965, have set aside one evening each year for The Arc of Indian River County. No ticket price. No dress code. No silent auction. You make a reservation, sit down, order dinner, and the evening's proceeds go directly to the organization.
The Arc has served individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in this county since 1975. Today that means group homes, adult day training, supported employment, and transition programs for students with special needs aging out of the school system. More than 200 people across Indian River County rely on its services.
For the Replogles, this night is personal. John Replogle, brother to current owner Charley, has Down syndrome. He lives in a group home, uses Arc transportation to get to work, and has spent years washing pots in the Ocean Grill kitchen five days a week. The commitment the family has shown over four-plus decades runs deep enough that The Arc named its annual award after them.
This year's Ocean Grill Night follows The Arc's usual spring schedule; check with The Arc for the exact date. Reservations are suggested for parties of five or more, call 772-231-5409. No ticket required, just show up and eat well knowing the evening is doing something good.
