Vero Beach is a golf lovers paradise; this we know. But, did you know that Vero is a golf gal’s paradise as well? Trust me and a former neighbor and frequent golf gal pal of mine, Christina, who is British by birth and has played many a course in the British Isles – often considered home to the toughest AND most beautiful courses in the world. Vero, she says, “has some of the most enjoyable, beautiful and pleasant to play on courses she has EVER encountered!”

Christina has also played a lot in Coral Gables and the Greater Miami area. Yet, she still prefers golf in Vero and so do I.
I have had the privilege to learn golf at Stoneycreek at Wintergreen in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Stoneycreek is stunningly beautiful and crazy challenging to even seasoned golfers. Forest Lakes in Columbia, TPC in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and The Golden Horseshoe in Williamsburg, Virginia are courses I have also carded. Tough ones and stunningly beautiful, but I prefer the courses I have played in and around Vero above all!
Christina and I are able to get out on the courses we frequent in Vero, play 9 and be back in our cars within two hours. Does this mean we play speed golf and card low numbers? No. We both prefer casual play, do not keep score, take the occasional “mulligan,” chat incessantly, marvel at the flora, fauna and vistas AND most importantly have fun! The perfect recipe for “gal golf.”
While Sandridge, Lakes Course and the Moorings Executive Course happen to be our favorite spots to hit, the public or private possibilities are endless in Vero.
PGA Village’s courses and their Country Club course in Port Saint Lucie are also well worth the short drive. I took my daughter to one of their Women in Golf free clinics this past April and she caught “the golf bug” due to the enthusiasm and attention of the pros there. As a matter of fact, if you “like” their Facebook page this month, you will receive a promo code for a $25 round of golf and cart at the Country Club course. That, ladies, is a deal!
Remember, we can all find a two hour slot somewhere in our week to get outside, bond with a gal pal or two and enjoy some golf. Happy Golfing!
