There's something almost unfair about a Vero Beach sunset. The way the light hits the water, the egrets settling into the mangroves, the sky turning colors that no filter could improve, it's one of those small, free gifts that makes living in Vero Beach feel like a very good decision.
If you haven't made a habit of catching the sunset over the lagoon, here are a few spots worth adding to your summer routine.
Riverside Park One of the most accessible sunset spots in the area, Riverside Park offers wide open views of the Indian River with plenty of room to spread out. Bring a blanket, grab a bench, or just lean against the railing and watch the sky do its thing. On a clear evening, the reflection on the water is worth the trip alone.
Riverside Park Right on the Indian River Lagoon, Riverside Park faces west, so it is one of the easiest places in town to watch the sun drop over the water. There is plenty of open grass to spread out, and you can cross the footbridge to Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary for an even quieter view.
Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area For those who prefer their sunsets a little wilder, Oslo is a quieter option with a more natural shoreline. You're more likely to share the view with a heron than a crowd, which is exactly the point.
Round Island Riverside Park On the river side of Round Island, the lagoon opens to the west with an observation tower and a fishing pier. The water views here are expansive and the park has a relaxed, unhurried feel that matches the mood of a summer evening perfectly.
A Few Tips Sunset times shift through the summer, so check before you go, you don't want to arrive twenty minutes late. Bring bug spray. And go on a weeknight if you want the quieter version of any of these spots.
