Pizza can be a very touchy subject since there are so many opinions on what makes it the best. If you’re from the NE, then you like your NY style, large thin slices, baked so the crust is a little bit crispy on the bottom. If you’re from Chicago area, then you like deep dish with lots of sauce on it. My personal preference is a lightly baked, thin crust, crumbled sausage, fresh mushrooms, and of course lots of mozzarella cheese. As a foodie at heart, I LOVE all types of pizza, so I was excited to have a chance to try this relatively new place in Vero and see how they stand out from the rest.

The Pizza Guys are conveniently located next to the Indian River Mall off of 20th St and at the corner of 66th Ave in a small strip mall. In business since 2018, they are still fairly new and still making a name for themselves here in Vero. Parking is plentiful so you should not have much of an issue finding a spot. Inside you will find a few booths and tables, along with some local artwork adorning the walls. We met with the owner, Billy Mullan, to find out more about the food served here and taste a few items during our Restaurant Review Dining Experience, so keep reading below to find out more!

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what we had to eat!

Gold Rush Chicken Wings

Chicken Wings are always my go-to item on any menu since they are one of my favorites! The wings are fried and then drenched in a Gold Rush wing sauce. The wings were meaty, tender and moist inside, yet had a satisfying crunch on the outside.

Pinwheels

This is not an item I’ve seen on many other Italian restaurant menus in Vero, so I was excited to try them. Pizza dough is layered with your choice of ingredients, mozzarella cheese, then it’s rolled up and cut into pinwheels, then they are baked till golden brown. They are served with a side of their housemade tomato sauce.

Cheeseburger Stromboli

My favorite item of the night was this Cheeseburger Stromboli! It contains sliced up meatballs, tomato, onion, pickles and baked to a golden brown. Ketchup, mustard, and thousand island dressing were served alongside. The crust was perfectly baked, a nice light crunch on the outside, soft and tender inside. All the ingredients worked very well together and it was delicious!

Rigatoni Calzone

Rigatoni is tossed lightly in tomato sauce, then layered in the Calzone with ricotta cheese, and baked until golden brown. Housemade tomato sauce was served alongside. This was definitely a unique combination of flavors and textures I’ve not tried before. It tasted just like a baked Rigatoni pasta dish wrapped up in pizza dough!

Bangin’ Onion Pizza

Let me present to you the “Bangin” Onion Pizza! This NEW pizza was inspired by the Bloomin’ Onion at Outback Steakhouse. It’s layered with onion rings that have been cut up, chunks of chicken, light tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and it’s drizzled with the “Blooming” onion sauce. The crust was perfectly baked and the Bloomin onion sauce added an additional layer of flavor and a little bit of heat. You definitely need to check this one out next time you dine here, it was really good!

In Conclusion:

I think these “Pizza Guys” are on to something here. While they do cover the basics that you would expect a pizza place to have, they also have a few very interesting new items on the menu that will keep customers coming back for more. No matter what your pizza preference is, I highly suggest you give these guys a try, I know you won’t be disappointed!
