SEA TURTLES BELONG ON DARK BEACHES… NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD

One of the greatest threats to sea turtle survival is poorly managed artificial lighting, which disorients nesting sea turtles and newborn hatchlings. Without the guidance of natural light over the ocean, hatchlings can become lost, wandering away from the safety of the water and into dangerous areas.

The Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) is committed to protecting these vulnerable creatures by restoring the natural darkness of beaches and promoting wildlife-friendly lighting. Their team works tirelessly to:

  • Replace harmful lighting with wildlife-friendly solutions.
  • Educate coastal homeowners, real estate agents, and local officials on lighting regulations.
  • Partner with local governments to strengthen protections for nesting sites.
  • Promote wildlife-friendly light products in stores.
  • Collaborate internationally to support sea turtle conservation efforts around the world.

Every step taken to reduce light pollution and restore natural beach environments helps ensure that sea turtles can continue their journey for generations to come.
