Market Fresh on the Move: Bringing Healthy Groceries to Your Neighborhood

Recognizing this need, Treasure Coast Food Bank launched an innovative program—Market Fresh on the Move—to bring fresh, affordable groceries directly to neighborhoods in Indian River County. More Than Just a Grocery Store

Market Fresh on the Move is not only about selling food—it’s about supporting the community in multiple ways. The program includes:

  • Nutritional education: Cooking demonstrations and healthy eating tips.
  • SNAP assistance: A benefits specialist is available to help eligible residents enroll in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
  • Affordable food options: Prices are kept low, and Fresh Access Bucks doubles the purchasing power for fresh produce.

Addressing Food Insecurity in Indian River County

Food insecurity remains a major issue in Indian River County, where nearly 7,000 households live below the poverty line. Despite the need, fewer than 5,000 families are enrolled in SNAP benefits, leaving many struggling to afford nutritious meals. Market Fresh on the Move eliminates food deserts by bringing essential grocery items directly to those who need them most.

“The biggest barriers to healthy eating are affordability, accessibility, and education,” said Judith Cruz, President and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank. “With this mobile market, we are breaking down those barriers by making fresh food affordable and available in convenient locations.”

This program is made possible through the generous support of Indian River Impact 100, Indian River Community Foundation, and John’s Island Foundation. Their contributions have enabled the mobile grocery to serve thousands of families and provide over 200,000 meals in its first year.

Treasure Coast Food Bank continues to expand its efforts to combat hunger through more than 20 direct-service programs, including food pantries, meal services, and emergency food assistance. Every purchase made at Market Fresh on the Move goes back into supporting these programs, ensuring sustainability and long-term success.
