Sebastian, Fla. – (July 26, 2019) – On October 13, 2019 Capt. Hiram’s Resort will play host to the inaugural River Rat Recycle Regatta. The goal of this event is to encourage community fun and raise conservation awareness through a boating race made of recycled materials.
The primary functions of this regatta revolve around recycling and conversation awareness. The regatta is also intended to raise money for river-conscientious organizations, spark community connectivity on recycling, and promote river cleanliness and conversation in a fun and collaborative way. Businesses and families alike can build a boat and participate in the friendly competition.
Capt. Hiram’s Resort is proud to be working with Walking Tree Brewery and Indian River County Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD) to host the River Rat Recycle Regatta. Daniel Rey of Walking Tree Brewery and Sue Flak of SWDD have both expressed the need for education and awareness about recycling efforts in Indian River County. This event is centered around a sense of community and raising awareness about river conservation and recycling in a creative and engaging way. As a community it is important that we all come together to take care of our waterways so that future generations can continue to appreciate the beauty of nature here in Indian River County.
Race Overview
Your mission is to be a part of a 4-person team and build a small watercraft and cross your fingers it floats and makes it to the finish line!
Each vessel is built from approved recyclable materials (and a few exception items so the boat stays together) and manned by a 4-person team. The floatable creations are required to navigate a water course route without leaving any part or parcel of your creation in the Lagoon. Cross the finish line with all original contents of your vessel and your 4-person team and see if your finish time makes your team the crowned regatta winners!
The race will take place on Sunday October 13, 2019 at Capt. Hirams Resort on Bimini Beach. Event check in is from 8:00am – 9:00am and the race begins at 10:00am. Sign up online at capthirams.eventbrite.com.
