Pelican Island NWR 121st Anniversary Celebration

Pelican Island will celebrate its 121st anniversary as the country’s first National Wildlife Refuge in March 2024. Joe Wiegand, aka President Theodore Roosevelt, will join the Pelican Island Conservation Society once again to help celebrate this historic occasion and bring to life how Pelican Island came to be known throughout the country, and even the world!

Please join the Pelican Island Conservation Society on March 15-17, 2024 for a weekend-long celebration of the Pelican Island NWR. Activities include a special “Evening with Theodore Roosevelt” with a presentation by President Roosevelt himself! Stop by the Pelican Island NWR on the weekend for a meet-and-greet with the President, enjoy the environmental, conservation, historical and live wildlife exhibitors who will join us, and stroll the Centennial Boardwalk leading to the overlook of Pelican Island.  And be sure to say hi to President Roosevelt – you can’t miss him!

Full details and schedule of events may be found on the PICS website at www.FirstRefuge.org, and some special events require a reservation.
