This camp will help teen fishermen or fisherwomen excel in fishing and become more mindful and productive anglers. Activities include seminars, conservation projects, science, restoration, along with fishing facts, fish species, and HOPEFULLY fishy smelling hands at the end of each day.
“Fishing is a great activity to keep our teens engaged and enjoying the beautiful nature of Florida,” says Barbara Schlitt Ford, Executive Director of the ELC. “Our partnership with Anglers for Conservation helps participants see that fishing is not just a fun sport, but a great way to be an active steward of our environment. Not to mention all the positive physical, emotional and mental health benefits derived from nature immersion.”
Fishing is a great activity for teens to build confidence, hand-eye coordination, perseverance and independence all while learning how to appreciate our environment. To catch more fish, you must think like a fish and this program provides a well rounded, outdoor and indoor experience for teens to learn or build on their fishing skills.
Anglers will remain within walking distance of the ELC with the exception of a pontoon boat trip to a spoil island provided by Capt Phil at ELC and fishing from canoes. The program provides all the necessary equipment. Each Angler will receive a new Fish Florida rod/reel for use at camp and to take home along with an AFC Swag Bag full of goodies when the program is over.
“This is a great opportunity for teen anglers to build their skills while making new friends,” says Schlitt Ford. “A week spent fishing on the Indian River Lagoon is one you are unlikely to forget, this is what summer memories are made of.”
Scholarships are available for those who qualify. Registration for this event can be found here: https://www.discoverelc.org/post/fishing-summer-camp-in-vero-beach
