Youth Sailing Foundation’s mission is to provide Indian River County with educational, recreational, and competitive sailing programs for all ages in a fun and safe environment. Run by volunteers, Youth Sailing Foundation, a 501(c)(3), is the only organization providing sailing lessons in Indian River County. Lessons, on a fleet of donated boats, are free for children from age 8 to 18 during the school year. Both on-the-water and in-the-classroom training are used by volunteer instructors and coaches to teach sailing.
During the summer months, one-week sessions of Summer Sailing Camp are held at The Moorings Yacht & Country Club. These fun sessions are for beginning sailors between the ages of 8 & 13. The cost is $250.00/week including lunch each day.
Youth Sailing Foundation also offers the opportunity to build a small wooden Optimist sailboat to a child and his/her parents for the cost of the sailboat kit. Building boats is supervised by a separate group of volunteers who meet twice a week to build, repair and maintain our fleet of boats, building and property.
Youth Sailing Foundation also offers adult sailing lessons. Each session consists of 8 weeks of classroom and on-the-water training taught by qualified volunteer instructors. The fee is $400.00/session. This money helps Youth Sailing Foundation continue to offer free lessons to children.
