Hands Across The Sand Coming To Indian River Shores on May 16 WHAT: A crowd will join hands forming a line across the beach in a "Hands Across the Sand" gathering. This is one of dozens of synchronized events globally, including 18 in Florida, to raise awareness about the dangers of dirty fuels and offshore drilling, and the need to speed the transition to available, affordable clean energy solutions. The events are particularly important this year with the passage of the Keystone XL Pipeline bill in the Senate, and plans to open East Coast waters to oil drilling, while at the same time removing drilling protections in Arctic seas. The impacts of these actions will affect people across the country. WHO: Citizens from Indian River County, organized by Indian River Democrats. WHEN: Saturday, May 16 at noon WHERE: Tracking Station Beach Park, 46th Place East, Indian River Shores Background: Floridian Dave Rauschkolb founded Hands Across The Sand/Land in October 2009. Hands Across The Sand/Land is endorsed by national environmental organizations including Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Oceana, Surfrider Foundation, Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth, Gulf Restoration Network, and Center for a Sustainable Coast. In-kind supporters are Urban Paradise Guild and Blue Frontier Campaign.
