Ends: Friday 01/15/2016 12:00pmIn the fall of 2012, McKee Botanical Garden volunteers and avid readers Carolyn Timmerman and Susan Wheeler spearheaded a new initiative: the Garden's first Botanical Book Club. The purpose of the book club was to provide a forum for readers of all ages and backgrounds to gather and discuss the trials and tribulations of fellow plant lovers as chronicled within the pages of a good book. Since its initial meeting, the book club was an instant success! For the past two seasons, the club has met and reviewed a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles. Each of the meetings has inspired thoughtful and lively discussions among its participants. Carolyn and Susan were thrilled by the response as well as the club's ever-increasing attendance. According to Carolyn, βThe participation has been wonderful. We weren't sure what the level of interest would be, but it's definitely exceeded our expectations!β Susan added, "Everyone brings their own unique perspective, and their willingness to speak up and share their thoughts with the group has really made this an enjoyable experience.β" The club will gather in the Garden's onsite Library. All are welcome to participate. The Botanical Book Club is free for McKee members; a $5 donation to the Garden is suggested for non-members. --January 15: The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert --February 19: Mr. Owita's Guide to Gardening by Carol Wall --March 19: The Gardener of Versailles, My Life in the World's Grandest Garden by Alain Baraton --April 16: The Lost Garden by Helen Humphreys Books can be purchased at the Vero Beach Book Center.
