Vero Verse What’s a Hero?

What’s a Hero?

Jackie Robinson, Amelia Earhart, Abe Lincoln

And Martin Luther King, what were they thinkin’ ?

Heroes all for different reasons

Disparate generations and different seasons

While what they did was diverse, the motives were the same.

Wanting new ideas to blossom not their own personal fame

Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s color line

How foolish to bar black athletes he would opine

Amelia Earhart proved that women could learn anything they wanted to

She was the first woman to fly over the Atlantic without a crew

Abe Lincoln believed emancipation should be the law of our nation

As president he supported elevating slaves from their station

Martin Luther King a minister and ardent spokesperson for civil rights

He did it with words, not physical confrontations or fights

Every generation has those who take up a cause

That might not be popular but is on the right side of the laws

Think about how you too can be a hero

Trying one thing is better than zero
