Riverside Theater Cafe – Restaurant Review

by “The Food Guy” – Food Blogger / Restaurant Critic for Vero Vine and Vero Beach Foodie

As part of my “The Vero Tourist” series of articles, I visited Riverside Theater a few weeks ago and got to see a few shows and sample some of the food they serve from their on-site café.  With everything that I experienced during my visit, I decided to split my article into two parts, the first one (link below) was for the entertainment portion of Riverside, the second one will just be about the food.

The Vero Tourist – Riverside Theater – Part 1

If you have yet to discover Riverside Theater, you are missing out on some great entertainment.  Their free outdoor concert series called “Live in the Loop” happens every weekend.  Their Comedy Club and Howl at the Moon shows alternate every other weekend and both are fantastic shows.  When you are attending any show at the theater, come hungry because you don’t want to miss out on some great food freshly prepared by Café 66.  Jimbo Carroll and Nicole Capobianco, owners of Café 66, started cooking for Riverside Theater about 5 years ago.  Now with the on-site kitchen, they have been able to expand and have a more diverse menu offering.  You can also catch Café 66 at their own restaurant location out off Oslo Road and 66th Ave SW.  They serve breakfast and lunch Monday – Saturday from 8:00 am till 3:00 pm.

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what I had to eat!

“Star” Burger & Chips – ($11.00) – When fully assembled, this burger was quite the handful!  It’s made with an all-beef patty and loaded up with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.  The burger was perfectly cooked and had a nice chargrilled flavor.  All veggies were fresh and delicious!

Grilled Chicken Sandwich & Chips – ($11.00) – This is just as huge at the burger, only it’s made with a grilled chicken breast and Swiss cheese.  It’s made with an all-white meat chicken breast and loaded up with Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.  The chicken breast was perfectly cooked and had a nice chargrilled flavor.  All veggies were fresh and delicious!

Pulled Pork Sandwich & Chips – ($9.00) – This is made with Jimbo’s famous pulled pork and was also quite a large sandwich.  Pulled pork is piled up high on a sesame seed bun and topped with pickles.  The pork was very tender and had a nice smokiness to it.  They do have a BBQ sauce bar, so you can dress it however you like.

Loaded Nachos – ($6.00) – I think the title of this dish might be an understatement!  Starting at the bottom it’s built with tortilla chips and layered with melted nacho cheese, salsa, sour cream, black olives, pickled jalapenos, and chopped chives.  You can add ground beef or pulled pork for an additional charge.  For the money, this portion size is quite large.  Bold flavors, crunchy textures, and a little bit of heat from the jalapenos make this a winning dish.

Loaded French Fries with Pulled Pork – ($9.00) –  Another incredible value is the loaded French fries.  A generous portion of fries are topped with nacho cheese sauce, Jimbo’s Famous pulled pork, then topped with BBQ sauce and chopped chives.  Ranch dressing was served alongside.  Of all the dishes we tasted, this was my favorite.  The fries were crisp, yet soft in the middle.  The pork is quite tender and juicy.  The BBQ sauce combined with the nacho cheese added a nice tang with just a hint of heat.  It was a wonderful combination of different textures and flavors.

Fresh Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie with Ice Cream – ($5.00) – The cookie was freshly baked and still warm, which helped the ice cream melt into the cookie.  It was so good!

In Conclusion:

A night out on the town these days can cost a small fortune.  Going out to dinner and a concert can easily set you back a few hundred bucks for the evening.  At Riverside Theater, you can enjoy dinner and live entertainment for a fraction of the price.  If you are looking for great local live entertainment and some tasty food, then look no further than your own backyard and discover all that Riverside Theater has to offer, I know you won’t be disappointed!
