Starts: Friday 08/29/2014 6:00pm
Ends: Friday 08/29/2014 7:00pm

Vero Cycling, Inc., Vero Beach’s recreational and social bicycle club, has teamed up with Main Street Vero Beach to begin offering Downtown Friday Fun Rides as a part of Main Street Vero Beach’s monthly Downtown Friday Events. The first Downtown Friday Fun Ride will be on Friday August 29th. The ride will start at 6 pm from the parking lot at 1975 12th Ct (across from Jetson Appliances, between the “Twin Pairs”) and end on 14th Avenue.

The purpose of the Downtown Friday Fun Ride is provide an opportunity for anyone who enjoys bicycling to participate in a casual group bicycle ride through downtown and some local neighborhoods, including the McAnsh Park and Vero Beach County Club area. The total ride will be 6 miles long and will last about an hour. The speed will be very leisurely. No one will be left behind and volunteers from Vero Cycling will be available to help with flat tires and other minor mechanical problems.

Anyone with a bicycle and a helmet may participate in the ride. Families with children are strongly encouraged to participate (all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult).

“This ride is modeled after the ‘Bike Night’ movement taking place in Colorado,” commented Giorgio Res, Vero Cycling’s president. “The idea is provide a very casual group ride for people who enjoy riding bicycles but who might not consider themselves ‘recreational cyclists’ like many of our club members,” added Res.

“Any kind of bike is fine and no special cycling clothes are needed,” noted “Last In” Larry Hershbarger, Vero Cycling’s safety director. However, all riders must wear a helmet, added Hershbarger. In keeping with Vero Cycling’s emphasis on safe cycling, Hershbarger will lead the ride along with other experienced cyclists from Vero Cycling.

"We are excited to partner with Vero Cycling," said Main Street president Vicky Gould. "This is a great opportunity to kick off our Downtown Friday festivities and get a little exercise along the way.”
