replicating the music of the band, one that was most influential in shaping the modern era of american rock 'n roll, â is a tall orderâ andâ the weight carries on where the band left off.

all of the members of the weight were either actual members in the band, or are directly and deeply connected to the legacy of the band and the weight, featuring jim weider and randy ciarlante from the band, brian mitchell of the levon helm band, marty grebb, who wrote and recorded with the band and worked with rick danko and richard manuel, and albert rogers who played with levon helm and garth hudson.

prepare for an unforgettable performance and enjoy timeless hits with songs like "the weight", "up on cripple creek", "rag mama rag", "the night they drove old dixie down" and so many others. This is the most authentic presentation of the band that the world is ever going to get.

This is a slow, meditative practice, which is a challenge in itself, to become more comfortable in moments of stillness. Poses are held for several minutes at a time to enhance natural range of motion in joints. Uniquely so, yin yoga promotes relaxation of the muscles to release deep layers of connective tissue and fascia. Great for all levels, especially for those looking for longer held poses and to acquire flexibility. Www. Verobeachyogabarre. Com contact: vero beach yoga barre

amber n. Wiley, ph. D.
assistant professor of american studies
skidmore college
gwendolyn brooks’ chicago: the poetics of an urban landscape
march 15, 2017 – 2:00 p. M.

this presentation builds on research that connects the african american poet brooks to the built environment of chicago, and shows how a close reading of her poems and contextualization of her work within art, architecture, and urbanism leads to a more inclusive (and poetic) narrative. Brooks' body of work covering the bronzeville neighborhood of chicago brought the nuances of place to life. The vignettes that spilled out of the pages of her books depicted a post-war chicago neighborhood teeming with a migrant african american population restricted to segregated living quarters by way of racial covenants and redlining. The lecture will also connect brooks' work with re-presentations of chicago by jacob lawrence, aaron douglas, faith ringgold, and fellow poet carl sandburg.

J. M. Stringer gallery is pleased to present "quiet moments: coast to coast," featuring the recent paintings of jim mcvicker and george van hook. Mcvicker hails from humboldt county in northern california. Painting from life, in both his studio and outdoors, his impressionistic oeuvre contains landscapes, still lifes, and figure paintings that capture the quiet moments of sensitivity and beauty all around us. Originally inspired by the pennsylvania impressionists, van hook’s paintings are a marriage of external and internal forces - the moments that emerge on canvas reflect both the beauty of the world and the artist’s innermost response. He currently resides in cambridge, new york. This is mcvicker’s first two-man exhibition with the gallery, so join us in welcoming him during a wine and hors d'oeuvres opening reception. The artists will be present all three days, so please take the opportunity to say hello! Opening reception: thursday, march 16, 4:00 - 8:00 p. M. Friday, march 17, 11:00 a. M. - 6:00 p. M. Saturday, march 18, 11:00 a. M. - 6:00 p. M. Artist demonstrations: saturday, march 18 at 1:00 p. M. Visit our website to preview the artists’ work and read their full biographies. the lost art of making memorials
march 22, 2017 – 2:00 p. M.

for most of american history, memorials were sober classical objects that stated a single theme in powerful terms: the tragic dignity of the lincoln memorial or the heroic authority of the washington monument. But in the last generation, the commemorative object has given way to the therapeutic memorial, which seeks not to celebrate but to heal. In this illustrated talk, professor lewis will look at the significant memorials of the last generation, successful and unsuccessful, including the 9/11 memorial in new york and the martin luther king memorial in washington, d. C.

The award-winning comedy of scott "carrot top" thompson, also titled "entertainer of the year! " and "comedian of the year," keeps his audience in stitches as he unpacks trunk loads of crazy props and wacky inventions. With three decades of comedic performance in his rear view mirror, carrot top is one of the most popular, recognizable and successful comedians in america. After years of playing out to sold-out shows throughout the country, he has now become a las vegas icon as well, celebrating his tenth anniversary with the luxor resort and casino at the end of 2015. Carrot top describes himself as a culmination of george carlin ("observational humor"), steven wright ("dark, sick humor") and gallagher ("the props"). Don't miss the best comedic entertainment for one night only at the sunrise theatre.

twenty years ago, pastor paul’s church was a modest storefront.  now it houses thousands, with a coffee shop in the lobby and a baptismal font as big as a swimming pool. But on the day they celebrate the end of their indebtedness, pastor paul is about to share some news his congregation isn’t used to hearing. It is a sermon that will shake the foundation of his congregation’s beliefs. How could one’s convictions change overnight? From one of america’s new, exciting playwrights, comes this mesmerizing play about faith and redemption and its power to unite or divide.

tickets: $45
