J.M. Stringer Gallery is pleased to present "The Infinite Effects of Light," featuring the recent paintings of John Phillip Osborne. Osborne graduated Cum Laude from the Pratt Institute in New York with a degree in fine arts, and recently retired after 34 years as senior instructor at the Ridgewood Art Institute in New Jersey. Osborne’s work captures “a small moment in nature; a feeling of coming just a little closer to the grand scheme of things.” Working in oil as well as pen and ink, his oeuvre is both technically superior and aesthetically engaging, and has been a "lifelong study of the infinite effects of light that nature has to offer.”
Known for his handling of light and attention to atmospheric effects, Osborne's oil paintings are works of tonality and subtlety that evoke an emotional rather than tangible remembrance. He currently resides in Ringwood, New Jersey and has built a career around painting the natural landscape of the Hudson Valley and becoming a preeminent artist of historical subjects. However, the artist's recents travels to Belgium and Vero Beach provided new sources of historical and visual inspiration.
