JULIANNE PRICE OF IRC HEALTH DEPT. TO PRESENT ON THE “UNNATURAL CAUSES” OF HEALTH ISSUES IN MINORTY POPULATIONS
A video from the PBS series “Unnatural Causes” about health problems will be shown in Fellowship Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Saturday morning, Feb. 3. The hour long documentary will be followed by a Q&A led by Julianne Price, Statewide PACE-EH (Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health) Coordinator with Florida Dept. of Health in Indian River County.
This fascinating program is not about doctors or drugs. It is about why some of us get sicker more often and die sooner and what causes us to fall ill in the first place. Many communities of color are worse off than their white counterparts. Researchers believe that chronic stress over the life course may create an additional health burden for people of color. The video sheds light on mounting evidence of how lack of access to power and resources can get under the skin and disrupt human biology as surely as germs and viruses.
The event begins at 10:00 AM and is one of several events being held at the church to celebrate Black History Month. Fair trade coffee and teas will be available. The program is free; no reservation is needed. Attendees are encouraged to park on the south side of the building and enter through Door G.
The UU Fellowship, offering a liberal religion on the Treasure Coast, has easy parking and is handicap accessible. It is located on the southeast corner of 27th Avenue and 16th Street.
