On Thursday, May 10, at 7:00pm, the Indian River Charter High School Choral program will present a Spring Concert at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7590 26th Street, Vero Beach, FL. This event is free to the community; donations will be accepted.
Music presented will include Classical, Broadway, and Folk music. It concludes with a medley of Disney songs from years past. The Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Ensemble, and the Show Choir will be featured under the direction of Gary Miller, Director of Choral Activities at IRCHS. Miller, a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, is a veteran of thirty-two years in music education. Gary spent the first sixteen years of his career teaching in various public schools and has been at Indian River Charter High School since 2002. He is also the Director of the Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach.
During Gary’s career, his choirs have consistently received superior ratings at district, state, and national adjudication events earning recognition for performing challenging repertoire with a high degree of excellence. By invitation, his choirs have performed in prestigious venues throughout Germany, Austria, and Italy including The Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, The Vienna Symphony Hall, and Haydn Hall at the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt.
In collaboration with the Vero Beach Choral Society, the IRCHS choir has been invited to perform John Rutter’s Te Deum and Gloria directed by Assistant Director of IRCHS, Ray Adams, on March 31, 2019 in New York City’s historic Carnegie Hall. All donations will help support the choir’s efforts to participate in this very special concert.
The Fine Arts Series at St. John of the Cross provides opportunities for the community to hear local, regional, and national musicians. Beginning with the 2018-2019 season, this series will feature not only musical guests, but also guest speakers and religious-based works of art in the new Fellowship Hall.
