The Budweiser Clydesdales have become an American icon that is the
living embodiment of America’s great industrial spirit They made their
first appearance in 1933 as a gift from August A. Busch Jr. and
Adolphus Busch to their father in celebration of the repeal of
Prohibition. The presentation moved father, son and the drivers to
tears, thus the phrase “crying in your beer” was coined. In 1950 the
Dalmatian mascot joined the team.
United Against Poverty was founded in 2003 by Austin and Ginny Hunt.
In 2017, the 501c3 nonprofit organization provided over 183,000 total
services including crisis navigation and referrals, transformative
education, food and household subsidy, employment training and
placement, personal empowerment training and active referrals to other
collaborative social service providers. Through UP’s Success Training
for Employment Program (STEP) 109 adults became employed in 2017,
joining the 144 STEP participants that have become employed since
2014.
